Help / Adding content

Which file types can I upload, and how large can they be?

You can upload videos, images, and PDFs; each file can be up to 5 GB, or less if your plan sets a lower per-file limit.

Supported file types

You can add three kinds of files to a room's canvas: videos, images, and PDFs. Other files, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or ZIP files, are not supported.

Add assets dialog, drag and drop, and paste

The Add assets dialog (Add asset, or press 1), dropping files on the canvas, and pasting all accept any file your browser identifies as a video, an image, or a PDF.

If a file is not supported, you see "Supported types: Videos, images, PDFs". When you add a mix of files, only the supported ones are uploaded.

If an image cannot be opened, you see "Couldn't open (file name). The file may be damaged or in a format we don't support."

Upload card in an empty room

The Start your first review card that appears on an empty canvas accepts these formats:

  • Video: MP4, MOV, WebM
  • Image: PNG, JPG/JPEG, GIF, SVG
  • Document: PDF

For any other format the card shows "This file type isn't supported yet."

File size limit

  • Each file can be up to 5 GB. A larger file is refused with a message such as "That video is over Pactto's 5 GB limit".
  • Your plan can set a lower per-file limit. If a file is over it, you see File too large and "Your plan allows files up to (size)." The message may also suggest upgrading to Pro to upload larger files.
  • If your plan's limits are reached during an upload (for example, its storage), Pactto shows a notice instead of an error. Retrying the same file will not help until there is room on the plan.

Google Drive and Adobe Frame.io

You can import only videos, images, and PDFs from Google Drive and Frame.io. Frame.io shows other files but you cannot select them. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides cannot be imported.

Good to know

  • To swap an image but keep its size and position, use Replace image.
  • You can split a PDF with several pages into one image or one PDF per page. See Work with PDFs.
  • PDFs cannot be viewed on smartphones. People on a phone see "is not available on smartphones. Use a tablet or desktop to view this content."
