Add images, videos, PDFs, and other content to a room
Click Add asset in the toolbar (or press 1) to upload from your computer, Google Drive, or Adobe Frame.io; you can also drag files onto the canvas, paste them, paste links, or create a Pactto doc or a table.
Ways to add content to a room
Anything you add goes onto the room's canvas, and everyone in the room sees it. Images, videos, and PDFs are called assets. To add content you need Can edit access or to be the room owner. People with Can review or Can view access do not see Add asset. If they drop or paste a file, they see "Only editors can add assets to this room."
1. The Add asset button (or press 1)
- In the toolbar at the bottom of the room, click Add asset, or press 1. In a narrow window, Add asset, Doc, Table, and Board are grouped under the Insert (...) button.
- The Add assets dialog opens with Local drive selected in the sidebar.
- Drag files into the dialog, or click Select files from your device and choose one or more files.
- The dialog closes and each file starts uploading to the canvas.
The dialog accepts videos, images, and PDFs. If none of the files you pick are supported, you see "Supported types: Videos, images, PDFs".
The same dialog also opens from:
- Add asset in the canvas right-click menu (on a computer or tablet; it is not in the menu on phone-sized screens).
- Add asset in the room menu next to the room title.
- Add asset in the right-click menu of the cameras-only view. Pactto switches back to the canvas first.
2. Drag files onto the canvas
Drag one or more images, videos, or PDFs from your computer and drop them on the canvas. They land where you drop them. If you drop them on a board, they are added to that board.
3. Paste from the clipboard
Copy an image or a file, click the canvas, and press Cmd+V (Mac) or Ctrl+V (Windows). The pasted files are placed near your cursor, and are added to a board if your cursor is over one. Pasted plain text becomes a text item with its line breaks kept.
4. Google Drive (Pro plan)
In the Add assets dialog, connect Google Drive once from Add new source, then click Open Google Drive to choose files. See Import files from Google Drive.
5. Adobe Frame.io (Pro plan)
In the Add assets dialog, connect Adobe Frame.io from Add new source, browse your projects, select files, and click Add. See Import files from Adobe Frame.io.
6. Links
Paste a web address on the canvas to add it as a clickable link. See Add a web link to the canvas.
7. Pactto doc
Click Doc in the toolbar, or press D, to add a shared document. See Create a Pactto doc.
8. Table
Click Table in the toolbar, or press Y, to add a table. See Add a table to the canvas.
9. The upload card in an empty room
When the canvas is empty (on a tablet or computer), a card titled Start your first review appears. Drop files on it or click Upload asset. The card also has a Create doc button.
Where new items appear
- Files you drop go where you drop them.
- Files added from the dialog are placed in a free spot, so they do not cover existing items.
- When you add several files at once, they are laid out in a grid.
- When you import two or more files from Google Drive or Frame.io, they are laid out in a grid and selected, so you can move them together.
Good to know
- Everyone in the room sees new items right away. While a file is uploading, other people see a "Loading" indicator on it. See What happens while a file uploads.
- Each file can be up to 5 GB, or less if your plan sets a lower limit. See Which file types can I upload.
- Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, and Box appear in Add new source marked "(soon)". They cannot be connected yet.
- To download files from the canvas, see Download files from the canvas.
