View, page through, split, and merge PDFs

Working with PDFs on the canvas

Add a PDF the same way as any other file: Add asset (or press 1), drag and drop, or paste. Each PDF shows one page at a time on the canvas.

Move between pages

1. Click the PDF to select it.
2. Use the page controls in its toolbar: First page, Previous page, Next page, Last page.
3. To jump to a page, click the page number, type a number, and press Enter.
4. While the PDF is selected, you can also press the Left arrow and Right arrow keys.

Pactto saves the page you are on, so the PDF opens on that page next time.

Split a PDF into images (one per page)

This works for a PDF with more than one page that has finished loading. You need Can edit access (or be the room owner).

1. Select the PDF.
2. In its title bar, click Split pages to images. While it runs, the button reads Splitting pages….
3. Pactto creates a new board named after the PDF. Inside it, one image per page is placed in page order, named like "(file name) - p.1.png".

The original PDF stays on the canvas.

Split a PDF into single-page PDFs

1. Right-click the PDF.
2. Choose Split to PDF pages. While it runs, the item reads Splitting PDF pages….
3. Pactto creates a new board with one single-page PDF for each page, named like "(file name) - p.1".

For PDFs with 10 or more pages, the page numbers have leading zeros (for example "p.01") so they sort in order.

Merge a board into one PDF

1. Select a board that contains PDFs or other items.
2. Right-click it and choose Merge board into PDF.
3. A PDF named after the board downloads to your computer.

Each PDF on the board adds all of its pages. Other items, such as images, notes, text, and tables, become one page each. The pages follow the board's layout: top to bottom, then left to right. Comments, websites, and screen shares are left out.

Download or export a PDF

• Select the PDF and click Download in its title bar, or right-click it and choose Download PDF.
• To save only the page shown, right-click and choose Export current page, then PNG.

These options need Can edit access.

If something goes wrong

• "Failed to split the PDF." or "Failed to split the PDF into images.": try again once the PDF has finished loading.
• "PDF is unavailable for splitting." or "Failed to read the PDF for splitting.": Pactto could not read the file. Add the PDF again and retry.
• "Nothing to merge into a PDF.": the board has nothing that can become a page.
• "Couldn't export the page.": exporting the current page failed. Try again.

Good to know

• PDFs cannot be viewed on smartphones. Use a tablet or a computer.
• If one page fails to upload during a split, the other pages are still created.
