How many people can join a room

Up to 20 people can be in a room at the same time, and a room can have up to 99 members with access.

Two limits

A Pactto room has two separate limits:

LimitWhat it countsWhat happens when it is reached
20 people at the same timePeople connected to the room right nowNew people cannot enter until someone leaves
99 membersPeople who have access to the room (members and guests)You cannot invite more people until you remove someone

When 20 people are already in the room

  • Someone asking to join from the join screen sees "This room has reached the 20 participants limit. Try again later."
  • Someone opening the room sees "This room has reached maximum capacity (20 participants). Please try again later."
  • In the Share dialog, inviting by email or creating or copying a session link shows "You have reached the 20 participants limit".

The email field and buttons stay enabled, because the room can free up at any moment. Try again when someone leaves.

When the room has 99 members

  • The Share dialog shows "This room has reached its maximum capacity of 99 participants. To invite new people, remove someone first." and the invite field is disabled.
  • If a batch of invitations would go past the limit, Pactto shows "Couldn't invite everyone. The room reached its capacity of 99".
  • Someone new asking to join from the join screen sees "This room is at maximum capacity (99 participants). Try again later."
  • To make room, remove members you no longer need. See Room roles and permissions.

Good to know

  • People waiting in the waiting room and people who left are not counted as members.
  • Your plan can also limit how many editors a room can have. See Plans and plan limits.
