Help / Canvas
Where do new files appear on the canvas, and at what size?
New images and videos are placed in a free spot near the middle of your view without covering other items, shrunk to fit within 800 by 480 pixels if they are larger, and the view moves to show them.
How new files are placed
When you add files to the canvas, Pactto places them for you.
Position
- New files go near the middle of your current view. If you drag files onto the canvas, they go near the spot where you drop them.
- If that spot is taken, they go to the nearest free area, with some space around them, so they never cover what is already on the canvas. Locked items count as taken space too.
- After placing them, the view moves (and zooms if needed) so you can see the new files.
Adding several files at once
- When you add two or more files together, they are laid out in a grid with even spacing and kept together as a group.
- They stay selected after they land, so you can drag them all at once, or turn them into a board with Convert to Board (see select-multiple-items).
Display size
- Images and videos larger than 800 by 480 pixels are shrunk to fit inside that size, keeping their proportions.
- Smaller files keep their original size. They are never enlarged.
- PDFs keep their page size.
- This only changes how big the file looks on the canvas. The original file is kept at full resolution for previews, focus mode and downloads.
Make a file bigger or smaller
Select the file and drag a corner (see select-move-resize). There is no maximum; you can make a file larger than 800 by 480. Resizing files needs Owner or Can edit.
Good to know:
- The automatic sizing happens only when a file is added. Files already on the canvas are never resized for you.
