Spotlight your view so others follow you
Click Spotlight me in the header (or press X) and confirm Become spotlight; others are invited to follow your view and their canvas moves with yours until you stop.
What Spotlight does
Spotlight lets one person lead the room. While you are spotlighted, people who follow you see exactly what you see on the canvas: where you move, what you zoom into, the item you open in focus mode and the slide you are presenting. Only one person can be the spotlight at a time.
Who can do it: everyone in the room, including people with Can view access. The Spotlight button appears only when at least one other person is in the room, and only on a computer: phones do not show it, but you can follow someone from a phone.
Start Spotlight
- Click Spotlight me in the header, next to the camera and microphone buttons. You can also press X, or right-click the canvas and choose Spotlight me.
- A Become the spotlight? window opens. Click Become spotlight to confirm, or Cancel.
- A bar at the bottom of your screen says You are spotlit.
If you are already in focus mode or presenting, followers jump straight to the item or slide you are on.
Follow someone
When someone starts Spotlight, you see Follow {name}'s view? with a preview of their view and yours.
- Click Follow {name} to follow. The bar at the bottom says Following {name}'s view.
- Click Stay where I am (or close the window) to keep your own view. The bar then says Follow {name}'s view with a Follow button, so you can join later.
The window appears once per Spotlight session. After that, use the Follow button in the bottom bar. When someone else is spotlighted, the header shows their avatar with the tooltip {name} is spotlit.
Stop
- To stop following: click Stop following in the bottom bar. If you are following into an item in focus mode, clicking Exit focus mode also stops following.
- To stop being the spotlight: click the Spotlight button again (Stop spotlighting me), press X, or click Stop in the bottom bar (Stop spotlight while you are in focus mode). Everyone stops following.
Take over from someone else
If another person is the spotlight, click Spotlight me (or press X). The window explains that you will take over and that anyone following them will follow you instead. Click Become spotlight to confirm.
Good to know
- Spotlight ends on its own when the spotlighted person leaves the room or when only one person is left.
- If you are the spotlight and try to refresh or close the tab, your browser asks you to confirm. Leaving ends the Spotlight.
- While following someone into an item in focus mode, you cannot move, resize or delete that item. If it is a board, you can still work with the items inside it.
- If the spotlighted person zooms into an item in focus mode, followers on the same item see the same zoom. See Zoom in on an item in focus mode.
- Videos play in sync for everyone in the Spotlight session. See Play videos together.
- Sharing your screen does not start Spotlight. See Follow a screen share.
