Arrange camera tiles and use conversation mode

Camera tiles sit in a row at the top of the canvas; use the Room menu to hide or reset them, drag a tile to float it, and click the Conversation mode button to hide the canvas and show large cameras for everyone.

Camera tiles

Each person in the meeting appears as a tile in a single row at the top of the canvas. With the camera on, the tile shows live video. With the camera off, the same tile shows the person's avatar. Each tile shows the first name, a muted icon when the microphone is off, and a highlighted border when the person is speaking.

See everyone when the row is full

When there are more tiles than fit, click the arrows at the ends of the row (Scroll cameras left / Scroll cameras right) to move one tile at a time. On a phone, swipe the row.

Hide or show camera tiles

  1. Click the arrow next to the room title at the top left (Room menu).
  2. Under Camera controls, choose Hide camera (or Hide all cameras). Choose Show camera (or Show all cameras) to bring them back.

This only changes your own view. Your camera and microphone keep working.

Move and resize a tile

On a computer:

  • Drag a tile to pull it out of the row and float it anywhere on the screen. The row closes the gap.
  • Resize a floating tile from its edges. It keeps its shape.
  • To put all tiles back in the row, open the Room menu and choose Reset camera position (or Reset all camera positions).

On phones, tiles cannot be dragged.

Jump to someone on the canvas

Click another person's tile to move your view of the canvas to where that person is looking (the tooltip reads Click to go to where followed by their name). If the person is sharing their screen, their tile shows a Presenting badge; click it to see their shared screen.

When something is in focus

When an item on the canvas is in focus mode, the tiles shrink to about half size to make room, and grow back when focus ends.

Conversation mode

Conversation mode hides the canvas for everyone and shows all participants as large tiles in a grid. Use it when you just want to talk.

Turn it on

  1. Click the Conversation mode button at the top left, next to the room title.
  2. Confirm Switch to conversation mode? with Confirm.

A bar at the bottom shows You are in conversation mode. It works even if every camera is off: people appear with their avatars.

Go back to the canvas

  1. Click Go to canvas in the bottom bar, or click the Conversation mode button again.
  2. Confirm Switch back to canvas? with Confirm.

Good to know

  • Turning on conversation mode ends any active Spotlight for everyone. See Present with Spotlight.
  • Screen sharing stays in conversation mode: the shared screen takes the main area and the cameras move to a strip beside or below it. People with their camera on are listed first. See Share your screen.
  • While conversation mode is on, the Room menu offers Add asset, Share screen, Hide cameras, and Show canvas.
  • On a computer, the chat panel opens as a column next to the grid in conversation mode. See Chat during a meeting.
  • Audio keeps playing without interruption when you switch modes.
  • When you switch to another tab or window, some browsers show your own camera in a small floating picture-in-picture window. It closes when you come back.
