Help / Canvas

Add and format text on the canvas

Press T (or click Text), click on the canvas and type; select the text to change its font, size, alignment, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, bullet list or link from the bar above it.

Add text

  1. Click Text in the toolbar or press T.
  2. Click where you want the text and start typing.
  3. Click outside the text when you are done. The toolbar switches back to Select on its own.

To edit existing text, double-click it. If you activated the Text tool by mistake, press Escape to go back to Select.

Format text

Select a text item (or double-click it to edit) and a formatting bar appears above it with these buttons:

ButtonOptions
FontDraw, Sans, Serif, Mono
SizeSmall (16), Medium (24), Large (40), Extra large (64), Huge (96), or type any size from 8 to 512 in the number field and press Enter
AlignmentLeft, center or right
Bold, Italic, Underline, StrikethroughStyle the selected words
Bullet listTurn lines into a bulleted list
LinkAdd a link to the selected words

How the style buttons apply:

  • If you are editing and have words highlighted, the style applies to those words.
  • If nothing is highlighted, or the text is only selected (not being edited), the style applies to all the text.

Add or remove a link

  1. Select the words and click Link.
  2. Type or paste the address in the field (Type or paste URL). You can leave out https://, it is added for you.
  3. Press Enter to apply, or Escape to cancel.
  4. To remove a link, open Link on the linked words, clear the field and press Enter.

Who can add text

Owner and Can edit members. Can review and Can view members do not see the Text tool.

Good to know:

  • Sticky notes, rectangles and circles use the same formatting bar (see sticky-notes and shapes-and-arrows).
  • Only one dropdown (Font, Size or Alignment) is open at a time; click outside to close it.
  • The formatting bar only appears when exactly one text item is selected.
  • Formatting changes can be undone with Cmd/Ctrl + Z.
