# Reset a forgotten password

> Click Reset it. on the login page, enter your email, open the reset email, enter the code and choose a new password.

## Reset your password

If you forgot your password, Pactto emails you a reset link with a code so you can choose a new one.

1. On the login page, click **Reset it.** next to **Forgot your password?**. The page says **It happens to everyone.**
2. Enter your email and click **Send reset link**.
3. The page changes to **Check your inbox.** and shows the address the email went to.
4. Open the email from Pactto and follow the link. It opens the **Choose your new password.** screen.
5. Enter the code from the email in **Enter the code** (if the link already filled it in, leave it as is).
6. Type your new password in **New password** and again in **Confirm password**. It must meet the same five rules as at sign-up: at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character.
7. Click **Set new password**.
8. When you see **You're all set.**, click **Log in to Pactto** and log in with the new password.

## If something goes wrong

- **The email did not arrive**: on the **Check your inbox.** screen, click **Resend link** next to **Didn't get it?**. Check your spam folder.
- **"Passwords do not match"**: the two password fields are different.
- **"Password does not meet the required criteria"**: follow the checklist shown under the field.
- **Reset link invalid.**: the link is missing information. Click **Request a new reset link** and start again.
- **Your sign-up was never finished**: if you started creating an account but never entered the verification code, there is no password to reset yet. Pactto sends you back to the Register page to finish signing up with a new code.

## Good to know

- If you joined a room as a guest or were invited by email and never set a password, use the Register page with the same email instead. See [Create a Pactto account](https://www.pactto.com/help/create-account.md).
- To get back to the login page at any point, click **← Back to log in**.
