# Change your profile photo

> Open the Account menu, go to Personal information, click Upload new, pick an image, adjust the crop and click Save.

## Change your profile photo

Your profile photo (avatar) appears where your camera would be when your camera is off, and next to your name in member lists. If you have no photo, Pactto shows your initials.

### From account settings

1. On **Your Rooms**, click your avatar in the top-right corner to open the **Account menu**.
2. Click **Personal information**.
3. Under **Profile photo**, click **Upload new**.
4. Pick an image file. Pactto accepts JPEG, PNG, SVG and HEIC images.
5. In **Adjust your avatar**, drag the image to position it inside the circle and use the **Zoom** slider to zoom in.
6. Click **Save**.

### From the join screen or Device settings in a room

Before you enter a room, the join screen shows a preview of your camera. When you are logged in, a button in the corner of the preview (**Upload profile image**) lets you upload a photo the same way: pick a file, adjust it in **Adjust your avatar**, and click **Save**. Inside a room, the camera preview in **Device settings** has the same button.

## If something goes wrong

- **"Please select a valid image: JPEG, PNG, SVG, or HEIC."**: the file is not a supported image type.
- **"Could not load this image. Try another file."** or **"Could not process this image. Please try another file."**: Pactto could not read the image. Try a different file or save it again as JPEG or PNG.
- **"Failed to upload avatar. Please try again."**: the upload failed. Check your connection and try again.
- **"Your profile does not allow changing your photo."**: your account cannot change its photo. The **Upload new** button is hidden in that case.

## Good to know

- Guests who are not logged in cannot upload a photo on the join screen.
- Pactto saves the cropped photo at a maximum of 512 pixels per side, which is enough for every place the avatar appears.
