# Join a meeting in a room

> Click Join room next to the room in Your rooms (or open the room link); if you are not yet a member, set up your devices and click Request to join, then wait for the host to admit you.

## Join a meeting

A meeting happens inside a room. Everyone who is in the room at the same time can see and hear each other, work on the same canvas, and chat.

### Join a room you belong to

1. Go to **Your rooms**.
2. Click **Join room** on the room's row (or click the room name).
3. Pactto connects your camera, microphone, and chat, then opens the canvas.

### Join from a link

1. Open the room link someone shared with you.
2. If you are not logged in, Pactto asks for your email. If you already have an account, the button reads **Log in to join** and asks for your password. Otherwise it helps you create an account.
3. Check your camera and microphone in the preview. You can turn each one on or off before you go in.
4. Click the button at the bottom:
   - **Join room** if you already have access.
   - **Request to join** (or **Join your first room**) if you do not. You see **Waiting for host approval** until the room owner or an editor admits you. If the request is declined, you see **Your request to join the room was rejected.**

### Joining without a camera or microphone

- **Microphone but no camera**: you join with audio only. Others see your avatar and name, and hear you when you unmute.
- **No camera and no microphone**: Pactto shows **No camera or microphone detected**. Choose **Try again** after connecting a device, or **Continue without devices** (on the join screen) or **Continue as spectator** (inside the room) to join as a spectator. A spectator can view and listen, but is not seen or heard.
- If you connect a camera or microphone later, open **Device options** inside the room and select it. You do not need to reload. See [Choose your camera, microphone, and speakers](https://www.pactto.com/help/device-settings.md).

### Your camera and microphone when you join

- If nobody else is in the room, you join with your microphone muted and your camera off, even if you left them on before joining.
- If others are already in the room, Pactto keeps the choices you made before joining.

### If you cannot get in

- **You are already in the room in another browser tab**: close the other tab. You cannot join with the same account in two tabs.
- **This room has reached the 20 participants limit. Try again later.** (or **This room has reached maximum capacity (20 participants)**): up to 20 people can be in a room at the same time. Wait until someone leaves.
- **This room is at maximum capacity (99 participants)**: a room can have up to 99 members. Someone has to be removed before new people can join.
- **The stage is at full capacity. Please try again later.**: the media connection is full. Try again later.
- **This room no longer exists**, **You don't have access to this room**, or **We couldn't open this room**: see [When a room can't be opened](https://www.pactto.com/help/room-unavailable.md).
- **Update required**: your app version is out of date. See [Update required message](https://www.pactto.com/help/update-required.md).
- If your browser blocks the camera or microphone, see [Allow camera and microphone access](https://www.pactto.com/help/camera-and-microphone.md#if-your-browser-blocks-the-camera-or-microphone).

### Good to know

- The first time you use Pactto, you may see **Set up your camera and microphone**. Click **Use camera and microphone** to let your browser ask for access, or **Continue without camera and microphone**.
- Screen sharing is not available on phones.
