## What the MCP server does

The Pactto MCP server connects an outside AI assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your Pactto account. The assistant can read the rooms you belong to (canvas, files, comments, and transcripts) and, if you allow it, add comments and organize boards. It always acts as you, within the role you have in each room. Connecting a new assistant needs the **Pro** plan.

## Connect an assistant

1. In Pactto, open your account menu (your avatar) and go to **MCP server**. Copy the **Server URL** with **Copy**.
2. Add it to your assistant:
   - Claude: **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector**, and paste the URL.
   - ChatGPT: **Settings → Connectors**.
3. When the assistant asks you to sign in, a Pactto page opens: "{Assistant} wants to access your Pactto account".
4. Review what it can do:
   - **Read your rooms**: canvas, files, comments, and transcripts. Always included.
   - **Comment on and organize boards**: shown when the assistant asks for write access. Untick it to give read-only access.
5. Click **Allow** (or **Deny**). Pactto sends you back to the assistant.
6. Try a prompt such as "List all of my Pactto rooms".

Only approve a request you just started yourself. If the page says **This request has expired**, start again from the assistant.

## See or remove connected assistants

1. Open **MCP server** in your account settings.
2. Under **Connected assistants** you see each assistant, its access (**Read** or **Read and write**), when it connected, and when it was last used.
3. To remove one, click **Revoke**, then **Yes, revoke**. It loses access on its next request.

## Good to know

- Without Pro you see **Connect AI assistants with a Pro plan** and an **Upgrade to Pro** button. Assistants you already connected keep working, and you can always revoke them.
- Guest accounts cannot connect assistants. Create a full account first.
- Changes the assistant makes are visible to everyone in the room, as if you made them.
- A few tools, such as describing an image or the visuals of a PDF, use Pactto AI credits. Reading text, comments, and transcripts does not.
- Prefer a terminal or coding agent? Use the Pactto CLI.
