# Rename, crop, download or act on a file on the canvas

> Select an image, video, PDF or link and a bar appears above it with its name (double-click to rename) and buttons such as Enter focus mode, Replace image, Crop image, Ask AI about this asset, Download and status.

## The bar above a selected file

When you select one file on the canvas (an image, video, PDF, link or screen share), a bar appears above it. On the left is the file's name. On the right are the actions for that file.

### Rename a file

1. Select the file.
2. Double-click its name in the bar.
3. Type the new name and press **Enter** (or click elsewhere). Press **Escape** to cancel. An empty name is not saved.

The new name is what everyone in the room sees, and it is used as the file name when someone downloads it. Renaming is for Owner and Can edit members.

### Move a file by its name bar

Drag the name bar to move the file, the same as dragging the file itself.

### Actions in the bar

Which buttons you see depends on the file type and your role:

| **Crop image** | Images (not on phones) | Lets you crop the image | Owner, Can edit |
| **Ask AI about this asset** | Images, videos, PDFs | Opens the AI assistant with this file selected (see [ask-ai](https://www.pactto.com/help/ai-assistant.md)) | Everyone |
| **Download** | Images, videos, PDFs | Downloads the original file. Shows **Downloading…** while it works. | Owner, Can edit |
| Status | Images, videos, PDFs and other supported files | Sets the review status (see [asset-status](https://www.pactto.com/help/review-status.md)) | Owner, Can edit, Can review |

Videos and PDFs also show their playback or page controls below the file.

### Crop an image

1. Select the image and click **Crop image** in its bar.
2. Drag the crop handles to choose the part to keep. The crop frame stays visible while you drag.
3. Click outside the image when you are done.

**Crop image** is not shown for a locked image, or an image inside a locked board. Unlock it first.

Good to know:
- Double-clicking an image, or pressing **Enter** with one image selected, opens it in focus mode.
- The bar only appears when exactly one file is selected. For several files, see [select-multiple-items](https://www.pactto.com/help/select-multiple-items.md).
- If the file is very small on screen, its name and buttons are hidden. Zoom in to see them.
- In focus mode the name cannot be edited and most buttons are hidden except **Exit focus mode**.
- Downloads always use the original file at full resolution, even if the file looks smaller on the canvas.
- Boards have their own title bar with different options (see [create-board](https://www.pactto.com/help/boards.md)).
